Privacy Policy

Making Space is a partnership between RainbowYOUTH and Te Ngākau Kahukura that aims to increase the capacity of the housing and homelessness sector in Auckland while working with rainbow identifying people.

We understand that privacy is important to you. It’s also important to us. So, we’ve set out how we collect, use, protect and share your information in a way that we hope you find informative, clear and easy to understand.

Information we collect

In order to contribute to our project, we may ask you for and collect personal information when you:

  • Contact the Making Space Project Team (e.g. via email, web contact form, phone, post, or social media)

  • Connect with us in engagement processes (e.g. completing a survey, submitting lived experience stories about housing instability and homelessness experience or independent consultations)

  • Sign up for our email mailing list or to receive project updates

  • Respond to surveys or sign submissions to government or reporting to funders by RainbowYOUTH or Te Ngākau Kahukura 

Where relevant, this personal information could include your:

  • Contact information such as your name, age, address, email address and phone number.

  • Identity information such as your pronouns, sexuality, gender and intersex status.

  • Interactions with us such as your submission of interest to join our steering group, responses to surveys, feedback about our project, and experiences you have shared with us regarding housing instability and homelessness.

Providing us with your personal information is optional. If you choose not to provide your contact information (e.g. phone number or email address) we won’t be able to provide you with opportunities to contribute to the project and keep you updated.

How we use & share your personal information

We will only use and share your personal information in connection with the Making Space project or for another purpose which is lawfully authorised (such as for public safety).

Some uses we make of your personal information include:

  • Providing you with opportunities to contribute to the project based on your own life experiences.

  • Contacting you.

  • Improving our project direction.

  • With your consent, for the purposes of contributing to research and reporting on rainbow people’s experiences of housing instability and homelessness.

  • With your consent, to better understand the needs of the housing and homelessness sector in regard to rainbow competency.

We may share this information with external third parties such as:

  • Project Team

  • Steering Group / Design Team

  • Funders (to meet our reporting requirements)

  • Publishing research / literature

We will not share your individual contact information or identity details with external third parties unless we specifically ask you for permission to do this.

Specific information for project participants (e.g. steering group members) will be provided on their respective information sheets.

How we protect your personal information

We keep your information safe by ensuring all physical documents are stored in locked filing cabinets and having everything stored online only accessible to our project team staff including our evaluator and co-design contractor with password protected user accounts. We only keep your personal information for as long as it’s needed. If we become aware of a data breach that we think could compromise your privacy, we’ll tell you as soon as reasonably possible.

If you are officially contributing to our project then you will have signed a consent form, and provided a copy of our privacy and data agreements.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong.
